Community Development

Please see the section on PACE Outreach Centers for community organizations we are networked with.

Mortuary Bay

In 2008, PACE took the initiative to build a Mortuary Bay at the Nyahururu General Hospital. Previously, there was overcrowding as people came to view the remains of their loved ones, and the overcrowding worsened during seasons of rain. Moreover, there was no place for people to congregate for a word of prayer before departing (sometimes to far away places) for the funeral. The bay serves the community with a nicely built stone area to place the casket, which doubles as a "Chapel" for prayer. However, the mortuary still requires renovations to create a better working environment for the staff who work there.

Missions

PACE has spear-headed sucessful inter-denominational mission trips to Maralal, Rwanda and Indonesia and we are planning more local and international mission trips each year for our staff and local churches. It is our hope that these mission trips will spark a desire within the local church to engage in missions to help the poor in Kenya and East Africa.

Tree Planting

PACE is implementing a tree planting initiative to battle the deforestation that is happening in our country. It is our hope to plant 250 trees each year around Nyahururu for the next 10 years. We also hope to spread our efforts to other towns and villages and empower them to start their own tree planting and re-greening initiatives.

Street Signs

PACE will be putting up well marked street signs in our community. The goal of this project is to help develop a sense of community pride, and to also aid people who do not know the area in finding their way around more easily.

Livestock Project

PACE is in the midst of creating a chicken hatchery to help poor widows as well as PACE students. Our aim is to raise 150 chickens (layers) to maturity, and hatch at least 250 eggs per quarter, which will be partially used for the boarders and staff at PACE, and partially used as a donation to poor widows so that they can gain a source of income through raising and selling high quality chickens and eggs to the market in Nyahururu town. Coupled with this effort, we are holding educational sessions through the Pan African Vocational College on hatching and raising chickens every two weeks here at PACE.

Grain & Food Production

Currently in Kenya, it is difficult to find affordable high quality grain to feed our livestock, and the price of staple foods such as beans and maize is constantly on the rise. At PACE, we feed over 200 children and staff each day and we are using 2kg of grain each day to sustain over 100 chickens and other livestock. Our aim is thus to begin producing our own grain to use for our livestock project, and staple foods for the PACE kitchen. We will do this by renting a plot of land to grow wheat and maize plants, which we can then harvest to use for grain production and feeding our boarders and students at a greatly reduced cost.
